Event & Press Photography Solutions for Ballina Fringe Festival

Ballina Fringe Festival is an arts festival that takes place every October in Ballina.  The festival approached the Commercial Photographer to document a range of festival events, including music gigs, street art and gallery openings.  The imagery was intended for future social media usage as well as use on the festival’s website, marketing materials and reporting.

The Brief

The brief here meant being flexible, on the ground and working quickly to capture all that was happening, often changing quickly, and with large groups of people. It’s a documentary style of working that we focus on here at the Commercial Photographer.

Creative Photography

For the street art, we set up time lapses that brilliantly showcase the process in creating these stunning artworks.  In post-production, we worked up some imagery with the time lapses to create videos which the festival crew found really useful for social media.  Facebook in particular loves videos, so this is a great value add on for a photography package.

Finally, we returned when the street art pieces were complete and shot a range of high quality landscapes showing the artworks and their environments.  These images are really strong brand images for the festival.  They’ve become front pages of reports and headline website images.  One image event went viral amongst the global street art community with 245k shares on Instagram!

Mayo Press Photography

The brief for the gallery launches and music gigs was typical press photography.  As well as fulfilling that brief to a T (it’s always nice  to see your images on the front page of the local papers!), it gave me an opportunity to capture some really striking images of musicians at work and some stunning concert venues.

The nice thing about working on festival and event photography is that always expect the unexpected and never really know what will happen.  That’s part of the experience, and it’s a fun way to create stand out event and press photography!
